Christmas in Australia is characterised by warm, sunny weather, our family, friends, and great food. Many of our traditions stem from those of the English, like a roast turkey with all the trimmings for Christmas dinner, even if the temperature is in the high 30's outside (around 100 degrees Fahrenheit)! Other dishes that make up the feast include cold ham, salads, and seafood like prawns and crayfish (lobster). That's not to mention the desserts - Pavlova smothered in fresh cream and piled with fresh fruits, and Christmas pudding or Christmas cake drowned in a brandy sauce, set alight, then covered in custard. Christmas dinner is usually devoured in mid-afternoon, after which we open our 'Christmas pressies' and enjoy the company of our family and friends with beer or champagne in hand. It goes without saying that we eat leftovers for dinner that evening, and for the next few days!
